Clinical Effect of Sulprostone (Nalador^(¢ç)) on Postpartum Atonic Bleeding

Abstract
Authors performed a noncomparative clinical study on the effect of parenteral Sulprostone (Nalador¢ç) in 25 postpartum women with the risk factors of uterine atony who underwent vaginal delivery at Depar - ment of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Medical Cental, Seoul, Korea from May 1, 1986 to April 30, 1987.
The results obtained are as follows:
1) The average values of age distribution, number of parity and gestational age were 27.4 year, 1.3 time , and 39.7 weeks, respectively. The average values of birth weight, placental weight and duration a labor were 3230 gm, 611 gm, and 8 hours 12 minutes, respectively.
2) The risk factors contained 8 cases (32%) of prolonged labor, 6 cases (24%) of pre-eclampsia and eac one (4%) of multiple pregnancy, hydramnios, abruptio placentae, coagulation disorder and bleedin: tendency.
3) The average amount of total blood loss was 392 ml, and blood transfusion was performed in only 2 cases 4) Postpartum bleeding enough to need transfusion could be effectively prevented or controlled in 1 cases (76%) even with a single dose only. Among remainders only one case showed intractable poshemorrhage, who underwent hysterectomy eventually.
5) No side effect was noted in 16 cases (64%) and the others complained minor side effects such as cases of nausea, 3 cases of headache and each one case of diarrhea and flushing, which disappeare. soon especially in the case of intravenous administration when the infusion was stopped.
